anyone here make a nice pouch/bag for birdshot?

i'm looking for a bag/pouch to hold birdshot for my smoothbore can anyone recommend a good one?

I would begin by researching antique shot snakes to see if that is the style of bag you could use or are you looking for something else. Many originals are just the same as ball bags and we're used for shot as well. Find a copy of the book "Getting the lead out" , it has lots of nice pictures.

I  highly recommend the shot snake, with the Irish style charger head. Unless you are that rare three handed mountain man, loading in the field with a shot bag is a pretty good way to drop your gun. If you choose a shot bag, make sure the body is rigid leather, not soft leather.

Have made two so far to accommodate different shot sizes. One with an Irish charger head and one with a English style head of my making. IMHO, the snake keeps things manageable in the field. They are not hard to make and I substituted cotton webbing for the leather strap. Glad to email pics if you want.

I made a shot snake without a mechanical head. Turned a piece of horn to resemble the spout of a powder horn. It has a deeply recessed collar where the leather snake attaches. I moistened and stretched the leather before I sewed it around this collar, so it attached securely. I drilled the pour hole 3/8", I think, and the maple stopper acts as a measure as well. I just remove it from the spout, turn it around, and pour shot into a cavity drilled into the stopper. Drill the cavity to correspond with however many drams you want to shoot, of course. I'd put a picture of it on here, but I don't know how.
