Introductions and more to add to just another over the comb..

Ok here are our introductions My fathers name is A.J. Downey III, 65 years of age My name (Northup87) is A.J. Downey IV and I'm 26. My father has been reading the forum for a few years now, but since he got a D in typing in 1962 and has only proceeded to get worse, "the electronic age passed me by like a turpentine cat" he says, I'm the one trying to type this in first, second hand narrative.. If not for the the state troopers roadside ABC quizzes I daresay long hand might be out of the picture for him as well.
Moon is the first rifle he has built since 1978... and it is number 5, It began as a doodle project to avoid cleaning the shop, while searching in "The shed of no return" he found a box of his old gun books. In Dillon's book theres a picture of Simon kentons last rifle (Supposedly) anyway its a simple big lock tool rifle, and that's is what started it. any other questions just feel free to ask? Here are some more closeup photos and a drawing of internal mechanism... TO BE CONTINUED!!!

Welcome! That is about the coolest So. Mt. rifle I've seen in a some time. Never seen that type of patchbox and I love it. Great wood, color, steel furniture....what's not to like!

Welcome, and congratulations on a magnificent piece of work. You are a talented man. I get cold shivers in my spine just thinking about inletting that tang! Yikes!
Good to have you on board.

Welcome to you both. That is one outstanding rifle. Very stylish. Even if you don't like Southern rifles you would have to acknowledge the talent to build it. Thanks for the pics.

A.J.#4. Very nice rifle. Southern rifles seem to thrive on having different characteristics. Hats off to A. J.#3. Whats the finish? Thanks for the photos. Mike New

Beautiful rifle. I really like the looks of all of it . The nosecap certainly is unique, along with the supporting woodwork. Abalone moon! (mother of pearl) Great work, A.J. the Third!

By the way - I think we may be kindred souls! Is that SNOW I see in the background!
Looks like my yard ..... oh, say ..... middle of May? And I note the serious 4 wheel drive in the background!
