big knife

This is a knife i'm finishing up. The blade is 9 3/4" , forged from 1080 steel , the guard and butt cap are forged from old wrought iron.

 The blade is 9 3/4"...looks considerably bigger than that.  Very nice knife - a strutter!

  Nice knife Joe. I have a bowtie that I won at a shoot with a fifteen inch blade. When at Rendezvous or other events I carry it on a cross sheath. Who ever made it did a great job IMHO. Oldtravler

Thanks , fellers. The blade does look longer than 9 3/4. I didnt measure it while i was making it, i just forged  a big blade , i was a little surprised when i measured it, i thought it was about 11 "

You are gonna have to share how you got the through tang hole drilled. I have never had any luck with through tang in that kind of a curve handle.

I just drill half way in from each end and hope they meet in the middle.

Two things that i found to be helpful are to taper the tang and make the tang about an inch to short and braze on a mild steel extention, that makes forming a rivet head much easier.

I too drill mine from both ends and hope for the best...I was just hoping that you may know some type of voodoo or black magic that I did not LOL. Thanks for the tip on the brazed end. With 1084 I have no real issue on peening the rivet, but on file blades it is a nightmare. Will use this trick in the future.
