Would it be okay if I posted some pictures of the rifle you built using Myron Carlsons furniture he copied from an original NC rifle?

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

It is a 40 Cal rifle
Barrel is oct to round and 46" long
Nice piece of workmanship  The fact that my old friend Myron hand forged a good part of the furnitute based on an original rifle I used to own helped with the attraction

I am not sure I'd call it a Mountain Rifle.  The lines and that patchbox look like they came from somewhere around Salisbury or Charlotte NC.

Who cares, right?  That is one cool looking rifle that I sure would be proud to hold onto.  The finishes are very warm and homey looking.

I like that pick holder, that also seems to have NC ties.

Thank you for sharing.  A fine piece.

God Bless,  Marc

It shoots great too. I shot a 50 and 4X with it on the 25 yard 6 bull.....some years ago when I could still see! :o I built probably 3 or 4 more like this, but I think I like this one the best. Always liked the tight curl on this one.

I believe Mr. Brooks builds the most authentic looking firelocks today.
When a nation forgets her skill in war, when her religion becomes a mockery, when the whole nation becomes a nation of money-grabbers, then the wild tribes, the barbarians drive in... Who will our invaders be? From whence will they come?

We''ll have to wait for Mike to come out of surgery to get the answer on the lock and barrel
I'm  sure the triggers, buttplate, trigger guard, side plate, thimbles and nose cap were all made by Myron Carlson. They were copied from what we called a Rowan County rifle
I  pulled out the two remaining sets I have of them for comparison. Mike must have made the box and other inlays himself

Hey Don,

Would that be Rowan County NC or elsewhere?  I mentioned above that it looked like a Salisbury, NC area rifle, and Salisbury NC is in Rowan County.  :-)

Some of us thought the original was Rowan Cty NC.  I don't think Mike ever saw that rifle but Myron labelled the parts as Rowan Cty, so that probably influenced Mikes styling of the rifle he built.  Any how it is a very nice rifle and I am proud to own it
I don't consider myself a contemporary collector , but do have a couple of special ones
A little Tennessee by Houston Harrison that he copied from an  original owned by a friend of mine in Missouri, a copy of my Henry Mauger made by Allen Martin and a Tennessee that Myron Carlson copied from one of his originals
I have never shot any of them, so guess they are my contemporary collection.
By now this topic spreads from antique to contemporary and is posted in the building forum
