Hawken fullstock,getting there?
« on: June 11, 2017, 03:01:00 PM »
still have to trim it up in spots, around the rod channel,a little more fat off the sides but getting there.Proper nose piece made a big difference, those oval ones really change the profile.I have a eighth inch of wood left between the barrel and top of stock, will shave that down.Over all shape OK?not slab sided but will take some more off,IMHOPhotography needs work as well.[ http://i63.tinypic.com/3023ry9.jpg[/img] ] ]][/ ] ]

Joe:  your rifle is coming along well.  In the bottom image, it appears to me that you have a bit of a flattened bottom to the lower forestock.  I'd round that  more, starting at about the lower edge of the lock panel all the way to the entry pipe.  That will diminish the slab-sided effect a lot.  Your profile looks good too, but I prefer butt plates with more of a heel...the one Mark Brier posted is an example.
This is going to be a nice rifle.

Joe,
From your photos, it looks like you are on your way to a nice looking rifle.  Even though it is a work in progress, some close ups might help to see what you are doing and where you are heading.  So far so good.

Thanks, guys,I do have to remove a bit more to help round over the bottom of the lower forestock, thanks Taylor.Thought the same thing after seeing his butt plate.Wouldn't be the first do over on this rifle, had a oval nose piece plugged in and one of our fellow members had a proper round one.The original toe plate I had inlett Imho was a tad thin for my liking.Might see how many he is making, check the dimensions to see if it would fit, something to ponder.Dave I will try to get some better pics, had rough time trying to get them to download and my photograghy stinks. Its been a rewarding experience so far, educational as well. While it won't compare to work I have seen from you folks I hope to get close to capturing the nuances of a full stock Hawken.Without the help, education and guidance from the folks on this site it would have been impossible to have gotten to this point. Thanks
