Priming Horn

After my oldest daughter took me to a fathers day brunch at Naval Submarine base Bangor I went home and took a break from rifle carving and built this horn. A friend gave me the raw horn on Tuesday night. Well actually another friend and I shamed him out of it since he does not shoot flint. It was a pretty old horn and was plenty dry so it did not scrape very well. I had to resort to files, sandpaper and steel wool to get a surface finish on it that was acceptable. I started out with intentions of building a traditional horn but halfway through the project I let my artistic license take over and below is what I ended up with. The horn is 7 1/2" around the outside curve and the base plug is 1 3/4" diameter. The base plug is maple, the screw tip is antler and the spout plug is boxwood.

It's beautiful David. Well done. At 7 1/2 inches, that's more of a pocket or bag horn. Unless you're priming cannons. LOL

Nice horn David, and a nice size for the purpose. Most of my primers are too small, and over the course of a day's shooting, I sometimes run low. Not so with this one. Great colours in the horn.

Dave, I don't know if we can allow you to have artistic thoughts.
Nice little horn.

David,
Very pretty horn. Your "artistic license" is to be commended.
