A while back someone asked about oven cleaner on cherry,since I had a cherry stock coming up I promised to post my results.I did'nt use oven cleaner I used lye(drain cleaner) on this stock.I used 1/2 teaspoon of lye to 1/2 pint of water let it dry in the sun for a couple of hours I then neutralized with vinegar.This is the result with a couple of coats of finish appied.

Mitch, Man that is a nice rich color. Did you use bone black or something like it ,for the darker tones? Do you have pics of the assembled piece ? if so , please post. Would love to see this beauty.  Nate

Thanks Nathan,yes I used a little bone black,burnt umber and a couple of other dry pigments.I'll post some more photo's in a couple of weeks ,the gun is still in pieces  and need some more finish ;D

That looks really good!  I've got a project coming up stocked in cherry, so this is especially interesting.  Are you cutting the vinegar or using it full strength?
