Multi piece barrels
« on: July 30, 2017, 12:58:44 AM »
Does any barrel company still produce barrels that are of multi piece construction? I know many many years ago some cheap import pseudo 'kentucky' rifles from Japan had barrels that were 2 pieces screwed together. If I recall correctly these barrels also were problematic. I have a barrel that is suspect and am curious if any company still does this.

In case anyone does not understand, I am not referring to the barrel and breech screwed together. I am referring to the barrel itself being of more than one piece.

I had Getz make me some 2 piece barrels that were 60" long years ago. The were neither cheap nor problematic.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

I also had one of Don Getz's two pc barrels. I knew it was threaded at the wedding band but could never see it, there was the faintest hairline visible on the inside. Shot and cleaned flawlessly, as far as I know it is still going strong (?).

What would be the value of a two piece barrel?

It lets the barrel maker make a barrel longer than his machinery's capacity.

Hoppe's made a .45 cal. Target pistol that had a two piece barrel. A friend shot one for years, and had no trouble with it.

Yup, made a boxlock target pistol, and a single action pepperbox as well. Both pretty rare today. I own one of each. Both had their own problems. The reason I know the target pistol had a two piece barrel is mine had a bur inside where the nipple treads enter the chamber. So to fix it I had to unscrew the front half of the barrel.
