latest smoothbore pistol build
« on: August 09, 2017, 06:36:17 PM »
Here it is  this is my latest build a 20 ga.  smooth bore pistol 22" OAL,  barrel 14 1/4" long, stocked in Cuban Mahogany the grain curves evenly right through the length of the grip.  I fabricated all the parts with the exception of the lock that came from Ryan at MLB and the trigger and flint from Mike Lea.   The ram tip is celluloid plastic ( invented in 1850?)   The ram rod is a hand split and planed to tapered round.

I don't know anything about pistols but that's quite a piece of work. I bet that Cuban Mahogany was nice to work with.

Thanks guys ! I turned the barrel and filed the flats, yes I did the modeling work for the brass side plate butt cap and stirrups carved them out of wax and cast.   Mahogany is nice to work with !

Very pleasing pistol you built there, Goo.  Made even better by parts of your own manufacture.  Great job!

That would be a fun gun for sure. Nice - What's also fun, are buck and ball loads.

I'm impressed. I like the art work and the castings. Most pistols were smooth bored as this one is. The barrel contour is very much like the originals were. Good job.

I appreciate the shell carving, and the castings you made.  However I like the overall "whole" better than simply the sum of the parts.  A very pleasing bit o' work there sir.  Best wishes and God Bless,  Marc
