Banded Horn No.Georgia W. No.Carolina
« on: November 24, 2017, 04:52:11 AM »
Tried to recreate an example of horns from this area. The originals all have painted butt plug and painted bands. The turned butt plug is segmented in a stacked style. The two piece antler tips also have this common shape. This horn is 12" straight line from butt to the tip. The horn is 2 1/4" wide at the base. I used a red and dark green pigment on the base. Tack decoration was also a common theme for this style.
Hope you like this.

GA Turner,
What's not to like.  If I did not have so many horns I would of added this one to my collection.    Great horn, color, architecture, finish, all top shelf.  Looks like a lot of thought went into this horn.

GA Turner,
Beautiful horn. There is an early plantation house in my area that had the original paint still on the moulding. It was painted dark green and dark red, if I remember correctly. Different bands of the moulding painted different colors. This horn reminded me of that. Thanks for sharing with us.

Ditto.  What David said.  A fine work sir.

A suggestion if I may?  When working on your next horn, please take some photos in the workshop along the way.  Now that photos are easy to post, you could make a little tutorial.  It would certainly help beginners like myself.

Best wishes, and God Bless,   Marc

Can you tell us where you found the original Ron? It is fascinating. Love the colors on the bands and the butt. Yours is great.
