coin silver sight insert

I'm thinking of putting a coin silver sight insert on the steel front sight of a rifle. Only a tinny insert silver soldered in place. I thought silver solder would be better as to hide the solder joint seam better. Is the coin silver going to be hard enough to not melt when I sweat the joint with silver solder? I would use low-temp silver solder.

Coin silver melts at about 1615 degrees F, pure silver at 1761 deg.

Thank you both for the info. My main concern was the melting point of the coin so that info eases my mind. That other link to making the silver front sight was very informative also. Thanks again.

when i do coin silver blades, i file a round peg/stem on bottom of the blade which then drops into a corresponding hole in base. then peen over the stem. if you file a nice tight slot in base so much the better.  no messing with flux/solder combo's
then you can do a little metal sculpturing and blend.

I have tinned the iron sight and it’s worked just fine by itself . Pretty simple plan really. If you want to solder on a piece of silver, a common propane torch will do the job without overheating.
