Bayonet lug/front sight??
« on: January 28, 2018, 09:26:56 AM »
I was curious how the bayonet lug/sight was made/installed on muskets such as the Brown Bess. I assume it needed to be strong enough to keep that bayonet on there when force was applied. Soldered? Forge welded?

On the Brown Bess, the lug/sight was dovetailed and brazed.

It was my understanding that that the lug only retains the bayonet. It needs to be fitted so that the socket rests on the end cap or front end of the stock
MVTC had a tutorial on fitting.
