As general rule do those of you who have used this lock finish it as is. I want to put a patina finish on it.

Polish then patina is a general rule. I guess one could partially polish leaving some “pitting” in appropriate areas like around the pan.

You need to take off the gray egg shell finish, it would look funky on a rifle.
