I have decided to rework my Dixie GW SMR as a time killer the rest of the winter , question I have is about the cherry wood stock . It's a made in Japan gun and I assume the stock is also some type of overseas cherry wood . Does anyone know if it behaves like our USA grown cherry in regards to darkening with age or artificially using a lye treatment ? Anyone ever reworked or refinished one ?

... Greetings Tim .... Here are some pix of a Dixie "TN MTN RIFLE" I re-worked a while back ... swapped the .32 Bbl. for a Green Mtn. .45 (13/16 X 42")... swapped caplock for a L&R flint ... sprayed "blackboard" paint for "patina" and rubbed wear areas back with scotchbrite pad and old wool sock ... added a few aged brass parts to "fancy" her up ...forged a more "proper" upper East Tennessee style guard.... kept the .32 Bbl & cap-lock and can convert back anytime I might want to ...was a fun project and looks more authentic now .... post pix of your project ... !!! ... Regards, C C Fiddler ...

That looks much better than mine in its present state Mr Fiddler. Job well done I especially like that trigger guard was planning on lengthening mine by about an inch so I can get all three fingers in but yours looks much nicer than what I had planned .
