I thought brass was bad....

but filing on silver is worse! :P

I've been putting decorative fine silver on some of the brass on the new build, butt-plate, trigger guard etc..   I probably get two strokes of a file before it loads up and I need to card it.  I swear I've about worn out my file card keeping the teeth clean and no amount of chalk seems to make the difference.

It's like filing beeswax!

A brass rifle case, say a .30 cal, the mouth of which is rubbed across the teeth, (it will embed/fit itself into the file grooves) will clean them easier and with less damage than a file card will deliver.  The case can even clean embedded aluminum out of a file that a card will not touch. I know this because!!!

Don't put so much pressure on the file.  Gold is twice as bad. You can't get gold out of a file.

Aren't soft metals better scraped vs. filed?

Use the valtitan files made by Glardon-Vallorbe. Even platinum does not clog them up.

Chalk your files. It helps pinning guide a bit and use less pressure as mentioned. Dan
