Jaeger Double Set Triggers
« on: January 31, 2018, 04:42:59 PM »
I would like to see a good authentic set of triggers for Jaeger Rifles available to builders.  With that goal, I am looking for examples from which to establish a design. I have a couple potential but am not 100 percent convinced to use either.  Should anyone have a set that could be used as a model, I would be interested in viewing them.

Ron,

Only set I have are homemade.
They do have the advantage of being able to set them uncocked, half -cocked or full cocked, or fired un-set.
Not sure why they worked out this way,  but they do!

Something I almost never see available: When I wanted to build my first Jaeger back in '84-85 I asked "Pa" Keeler if he had any info about them in his vast library. He said "Yah, follow me"! Down in his gun vault room, he handed me 10 different originals to examine, and drool on :o I think all of them had dbl. set triggers and on at least half of them the front trigger was like a needle, or music wire. Talk about hair triggers!

Probably all of those triggers had multiple levers, springs
and needle size pins. Most were made by watchmakers
in the French speaking part of Switzerland.Cost prohibitive
today even if someone could be found to make them.

Here are some multi level triggers. I thought I had photo of one that I had replaced a bad restoration front trigger for Joe Williams but i have mislaid it some where. It was a marvel of balanced levers and springs like a Goldberg device. It must of come from a Schutzen rifle it was over an inch tall over the trigger plate.  levers were exposed on one side like it was a cut away model for show and tell. The last three are of a traditional German type trigger with the front mounted main spring wrapping around and through the frame of the triggers. They are not of a multi lever design. That front lug extension is the screw that holds the main spring to the plate.

HI Dave,
Your last photo is similar to the paul poser I have here and is good representation. My hope is to find a pristine set that could be scanned for dimensions.

The spring retaining screw that serves as a lug is a nice photo to add to my Jaeger Rifle builders guide.

Dave B,

I have to pull mine out now to see what they look like!
Can't remember.
The first two you show look a nightmare to make! Mine's simple but works somehow.

They all seem tall.  And some are nightmarish.

Some time ago I made a few double set triggers that had a latch
that captured the rear trigger in the set position. This latch was
built into the front trigger and was adjustable by a small 2x64
screw also in the front trigger. The front trigger did not change
positions no matter how fine the latch was set to work. One of
my German friends called it a "Stecherrastl".I think this was in
the 1980's and I made one of them and a German styled schuetzen
lock for barrel maker Ken Bresien in Warsaw,NY.
I made and donated another set to the NMLRA in 1987 and the lock
was found in a flea market and no idea as to the fate of the triggers,
probably scrapped. This lock was engraved by engraver Norris Sperry
who did work for Colt and Smith&Wesson as well as private contracts.
He also donated his time and later when I told him of the fate that
befell the lock he said,"Never again to donations"and even before
this his opinion of the NMLRA was very low.
