Not a Soddy...

Not a Soddy but certainly is a cousin of one. Copy of an old southern mountain match rifle. Stock is black walnut.  The bag and horn are a copy made by TC Albert of an original that was used by my folks around 1900. The plug is held in with hob-nails and the pouch is goat with the hair left on. This rifle shoots better than most can hold it.

  .... might not have the "typical" Soddy stock cross-section, but I've also seen original Soddy area made guns that did NOT either .... "All Guns Had" certain characteristics is a phrase that cannot be used... !!! .... Anyway,.... Nice rifle .... give us some specs ... !!!

Thanks for the compliment. The caliber is about 52. I never got good at hitting a standard caliber reaming by hand. So you have to cast your own rb.1’’ across the flats 43” long.7 grooves about .01. Heck of an offhand rifle and pretty tough off a rest too. All the furniture  I brazed together.

Cool looking rifle.  Has a real warm feel to it, and apparently the goods to back it up.
