Is this blunderbuss in its original shape or altered

Take a look at this blunderbuss from a museum in England:

Do you think it's in its original stock, or altered?  The way the wrist is shaped into a ball like the butt of a pistol would lead one to believe it's original. If it was a typical buss that broke and was just used that way, the wrist wouldnt be flairing like that.
The barrel looks like the bell was cut off, but the stock looks like it was made that way. I'm guessing carried by someone in horse back with the swivel mounted that way. What are your thoughts.

It may have been a cut down of a blunderbuss but I have seen  this type which I believed to have been used by Jailers one did have the name of the jail engraved on the barrel.
