Different colored brass
« on: March 31, 2018, 03:23:23 AM »
I just received my order to complete a Kentucky pistol and some of the brass is wax casting some is sand cast.  The colors between the 2 Are Way apart. Rod pipes are a nice golden, trigger guard and
Butt cap are a yellow color and sideplates is in between.   I’m not sure if this is going to look right.
They offer a trigger guard and larger but cap in a wax cast if I need to re-order it  to match the  Rod pipes but it’s not a guarantee.  I also have a .080 sheet of silver that I was possibly going to make a side plate and butt cap Out of instead but the trigger guard and Rod pipes are way different color.  I need some help making a decision before I start cutting these parts in please help.

If the yellow color is what you want, seems like changing out ramrod thimble is the easiest solution.

That would be the easiest thing to do.  I wish they made matching sets for these pistols.

Yrs ago I assumed brass was brass...not so because I unknowingly  bought some wax cast parts in bronze. When polished, the bronze parts were close to yellow brass, but as they aged, the bronze took on a reddish hue as shown below. Both the Bplate and TG were affected....and were bought as a set.....Fred

This is not a modern problem. I bought a bunch of old rifle furniture some years ago. Most of it was brass, or what was called brass back then. It varied in color quite a bit. In fact I still have a little buttplate that is so red it looks like it was cast from old church bells.
I don’t think they paid too much attention to the color differences back then.
