How thick plank need to be for a Hawken job

I have a nice piece of curly that is 2 1/2 thick, plenty long for a f/s and enough for proper drop. With the early beavertail or the half moon such as on the Peterson rifle, can I get what I need with this board?I am planning to use a 1 1/8 x 36" 58 cal barrel .
Thanks to all.have a good evening fellows. Cheers, Dave

2” thick is enough for a Hawken.

Thanks Rich, I thought it might be. This stock blank is so nice and curly I almost don't want to make a Hawken, but rather a SMR , but I have the stuff for this project, and rather use a slimmer blank to build a longrifle. Just hate to waste such wood.I am thinking early f/s Hawken sorta like the one on Gunsinternatnl, over in Virginia, I have a 2 piece buttplate, and most everthing to do this, using a long trigger and scroll guard.
Thanks again, Dave

I would save the 2 1/2" for something where it was needed.

Yep, I believe I will save it for a longrifle. Just cant do it. Besides, after looking and measuring carefully, it would be marginal in the forend bottom.
Goo, I believe the cherry or very plain maple will get the call. I would like to do walnut, it just doesn't like me.
Thanks y'all. Dave F

You will need some decent plans. Track has some as does Stith. Get them all, and plan it out. Or, even draw your own plans from your parts. Either way, you will know for sure then.
Hey, who has correct Hawken nose caps?
