Looking for information on markings on my flintlock
« on: April 26, 2018, 05:25:56 PM »
I have what I believe to be a flintlock from the early 1800's.  Side plate is marked EXETER under what appears to be an eagle. On end of plate is marked J.HC.H.  Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you are describing a Pattern 1808 Exeter Musket. Photographs would be helpful if you can provide them.

U.S. Model 1808 Contract Musket by J. & C. Barstow of Exeter, New Hampshire

The marking at the end of the lock are the initials J. & C. B.

Thank you for the help.   May need to find unit a new home soon since I'm retiring and may not have an option to take with me.   I will continue my research to determine value.   Again, Thank you
