I Need Help With A Stock
« on: May 22, 2009, 03:54:27 AM »
I picked up a musket a few weeks back that is in pretty nice condition metal is very good and the wood is also, only a few minor dents and nicks nothing bad. The  stock has a nice aged original looks like oil finish. The only problem is the stock has suffered a chip below the lockplate at sometime  that is about the size of a quarter and the chipped area has been filled with some type of filler it does not look like the plastic wood type filler it is even and flush with the surface of the surrounding original finish and is very smooth but it is a good bit lighter than the original finish. You can see that they put a dab of stain on the spot but the stain did not darken the spot much at all. I really hate to try digging the filler out and trying to fill it with wood dust and glue is there anything that might darken this filled area a bit where it would blend in better the original finish is very dark.
