Yesterday I received an email from Roger Fisher's daughter-in-law, Dora Fisher. She let me know of Roger's recent death and mentioned that she used to post photos for him here on ALR. Dora mentioned that she wanted to inform his many ALR friends of his recent death.

Roger was a very active member and enjoyed discussions on black powder shooting with his many ALR friends. About 5 years ago Roger became very ill and no longer was able to be a part of ALR but many of us still remember him as a kindly gentleman that was always willing to share his experiences, be it in shooting sports or advice related to insurance (Roger ran his own Insurance agency).

I was fortunate enough to have met Roger a couple of times at Dixon's Gun Fair, he was always a delight to be around and I am proud to have known him. Below is Roger's obituary.

Some photos of Roger taken at First Frontier Militia - PHOTOS from 8 May 11 (2011) Shoot

Roger Fisher is letting one off with his "sissy gun" (as he calls it).  Roger shot well, taking a second in the aggregate match, winning the smoothbore match, and winning a few of the reentry matches.

Roger wasn't very satisfied with this target

Dora,

You and all of Roger's family have my heart-felt condolences.  May the good Lord bless and keep you.

I regret that I never had the opportunity to meet Roger in person, but I came to know him thru our conversations here on ALR.  He was always courteous and willing to help others.  A true gentleman.  He is truly missed by many of us here.

Just recently someone replied to an old thread here which brought the thread to the top of the page.  Here is a recent comment in that old thread.

Just plain GOLLY GOSH!!   I started reading this thread and seeing Don Getz and Roger Fisher posting made my heart just flutter with delight!!  I sure miss those guys!

When I joined this forum back in 2008 Roger was a very active poster. It was obvious that he loved the black powder lifestyle and the guns. I've really missed him these past few years.
I'm finding it hard to express what I'm feeling right now so suffice to say, while I never had the pleasure to meet him in life, I still consider him as my friend.

I remember how we all signed a t-shirt for him the first year he couldn't make it to Dixon's.

I'm sorry to hear of Roger's passing, but he is in a better place now.  He was a gentleman, and always willing to share his knowledge and encouragement. His presence here has been greatly missed these last few years.

I did not know Roger well, but had the distinct pleasure of meeting him at a few of the local club shoots. Speaking to him was very memorable for the friendliness and willingness to help that he projected. A real gentleman.

I had the pleasure of shooting with Roger many times at our club and at Danvilles club. I'm relieved he's in a better place now. My heart goes out to his family for his loss. Friends like him live on forever in our memories until we meet again. BJH

Sad to hear of his passing.  He's been missed here for a long while.  I never met him but remember interacting with him on several threads and PMs.  His quest to keep a certain high mileage barrel shooting tight really entertained and inspired me, and one of my proudest moments was when I suggested a technique he hadn't tried or even thought of...and as many will remember that project he was not short on creativity or timid about trying things.  Really great guy whose friendliness and love of shooting was obvious and contagious even just online.  I wish I could have met him in person.

Sorry to hear this. Roger will be missed by many. I would have loved to spent some time at the range with him. He was a black powder man !

I have been dreading this news for years, following his decline in health.  What a man!!  I so enjoyed his posts here, and our conversations at Dixon's Fayre.  We have a shot on our trail called the "Roger Fisher"...a re-entry shot.  We are greatly diminished.

I don't get on the American Longrifles Forums as often as I'd like and did a deliberate search to find this post about Roger after reading about his passing in the current issue of Muzzle Blasts Magazine.
Mr Glazener's comments, as well as many others, are an accurate reflection of my own impression of Roger Fisher.  I never had the privilege of meeting him but always made sure to read his prolific posts on everything for they all were informative, interesting and entertaining.   His enthusiasm for our sport/hobby was very apparent.  He made a lasting impression on me as do many of you here.
Thank you Roger and thank you all for sharing your experience and wisdom.

I remain yours, most humbly

Johnny

My first contact with Roger was at the first Gunmaker's fair.  He was always a delight to talk to.  He had a very rare sense of humor that came through in his conversations.  He will be missed.
