Headband Magnifier

What power do you recommend in a headband magnifier for detail rifle building work i.e. wood carving, metal engraving...?

I use a 1 3/4 power that focuses in at 14 inches from my work.  I used one for over 20 years and it finally gave up the ghost and got a new one about 8 months back.  I still like the feel of the old one better than the new, but I guess I had used it for such a long time that I will have to adjust.

Since 1977 I've used an OptiVisor w/ a #5 lense {2-1/2X} which has a focal length of 8" and recently because of failing eyesight use an OptiVisor w/ a #7 lense {3-1/2X} which has a focal length of 4". This short focal length hasn't been easy to adjust to and only use it for very fine work. For most work, the #5 has been and is excellent......Fred

I have a #7 and have adjusted to it. If you buy and Optivisor buy the led light kit for it, truly amazing, you will never see a shadow on your work again even in a poorly lit shop.

My #7  lense OptiVisor has the LED setup and it does "light up" whatever you're looking at. You've "conquered" the 4" focal length and I'm still not comfortable w/ it....time will tell.....Fred

I use a 7 power Optivisor also with the LED light kit. Don't know how I could work without it!
