For whatever reason info on the BC lid release is hard to come by and using a different release on my first 3 Bucks County LRs was the result.  Below are some pics of how the release should be done to duplicate the originals.

The opener spring and its location have been mover to the area next to the Bplate per Taylor Sapergia  and is out of the way and applies opening force close to  the latch pin. Don't have a pic of this spring.

The end of the lid release pin is under the forward end of the toeplate.

Hope the pics help .......and if addt'l info is  req'd, just ask.

Fred has eluded to the Verner I built back in 2011.  Here's a couple of images of the release I made, based almost entirely on my imagination, as there isn't a lot of info from originals available.  Fred is correct too, that the end of the toe plate is depressed to actuate the release rod - that is a know.

Yip:  my brother owns that rifle and he's off on an adventure up north.  I built the rifle directly from the photographs in RCA I.  I'll reference it in a couple minutes and let you know - got to take my puppy for a hike first!
