I use the steel that is used for the ties in poured walls . You usually can find some  at a job site where they pour a wall.  I do heat it to form the trigger shoe. When the trigger is functioning I heat the part where the sear rides,  quench and then polish. This is done to reduce friction. I don't know what the steel is but it must be high carbon because it hardens nicely.
