Lock Polishing
« on: June 02, 2009, 02:03:55 AM »
I have a couple of questions about lock polishing.  I have never built before so keep that in mind.  There is a very good thread that came up today about the topic and it got me to thinking about some stuff.

1. What is the purpose of polishing?  Is it to remove machine, cast and/or forge marks?  Or is it to really shine the piece up.

2. Is is cosmetic, or is there a functional aspect to it?  Please keep in mind I have been shooting all my life, but never built.

3. I plan to build one soon and was thinking about polishing the lock and leaving it like that.  I have a pistol that was done that way and over the years it has a very nice patina to it.  Would that effect how much polishing needs to be done?

thanks everyone

Coryjoe --- this topic was covered extremely well awhile back. Check out this link:

or this one:

Lots of information on both topics. Hope this helps.
