Best, to crosspeen the tang longer, perhaps anneal it a couple times - but you can also silver solder or braze an end onto your tang.  Then, file or grind the top of your tang down and soft solder a piece of 1/32nd or 1/16 sheet iron to the top - file to shape, bore through the tang hole, trim edges off, carefully at the front end.  Screw it back in place and dress it to match the top of the barrel. I've used this to fix the messed up tangs of Miroku Springfield 61s.  The veneer of iron on top camoflages the solder joint of the extension.  Sure , if you can weld, weld it - but you can make an undetectable job if you can solder.  Then every time you pick it up, you wont say, I wish I had a different tang end...
