I have a 36 cal Douglas bbl that is "browned." Do I need to strip it to fire blue it? (I'm thinking yes) If so what with? Would it lend itself to fire bluing? I like the look of fire blue against dark walnut. I'm leaning towards wrought iron mounts and butt plate.
Brass might be better. What do you think brothers?

You can boil it and it will turn blue-black.
