Introduction and First build.

Hi,
As a new member to the ALR forum, I would first like to express my thanks to all those who keep this site going. I’m amazed at the wealth of knowledge that exists here, and the respectful way it is shared.

I’m located in the north central area of Alberta, Canada... I'm 58 years young, and in the recent years I’ve found that the older firearms in my collection just seem to have more appeal than the modern ones. I had not owned a muzzle loader before this, but it’s opened a door to a whole new world. I have really enjoyed working on this rifle and look forward to its first firing. Since finishing I’ve been acquiring books, learning the history, and studying the art.

The rifle is a Chambers, Early Lancaster in 50 cal. 

I welcome any comments and advice that I can use to improve my work.

Well - Northof54 it is obvious that you have talent and your work shows it ;). You did a wonderful job on that rifle - keep up the good work :) 8).

Very nice rifle, Richard!  Your carving is well executed.  Please don’t take this as criticism, but I’d love to see your skill directed at more “traditional” Rocco style carving.  Again, nice work, welcome to the forum, and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Richard, welcome to the greatest place on the planet for flint and percussion traditional style muzzle loaders!

That is really a nice piece of workmanship that you have there.  Good eye for architecture and detail, a pleasure to the beholder.

Welcome to ALR!  Wonderful job, especially being your first build.  There must be something in the water way up north.  What's next?  I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thank you all for your kinds words. Winter has arrived early this year, so it's time for me to get planning another build. I'm thinking about either a Schroyer or a Beck. Going to try for that HC look.

Welcome! That is a great first rifle. Acquiring books is a good idea. Not too many originals up there in the frozen north.
