Barrel pin alignment
« on: December 16, 2018, 11:14:45 PM »
I just drilled for a barrel pin in the forearm. The up and down alignment
Is just a little off.   When I drive in the pin, the tang comes up just a very small amount.
I have have not done any shaping on the stock yet and it is still square in cross section
And some what rigid. I filed the hole in the lug a little but I don't want to make it oversized.
How fussy do you need to be with this?  My thought is that once the shaping is done the
Stock will conform to the barrel and the tang bolt will snug the tang down. At this point it seems like the barrel is very slightly flexing to conform to the stock.
I have a bunch of .090 rod and that is what I used for the pin.  I drilled from both sides but removed
The barrel to drill thru the lug where the drill scribed it. Thanks for any comments.

replace it with a new lug, and c-clamp the barrel to the stock when re-drilling through the stock hole.

What flint fan said, AND don't use a .090" pin.  1/16" or 5/64" is plenty...... then you won't have these huge holes in the sides of the stock.

What Flint and Smallpatch said.  I bought into the .090 pin thing on my first build.  Now after a few more under my belt, I look at that gun and say"what was I thinkin'".  Those large pins really stand out and if you thin your forearm to the desired thickness(or thin-ness), there is really no need for anything that large.
