Beads on triggger bow
« on: January 09, 2019, 04:07:28 PM »
I'm not sure what the proper name is for the rolled/ raised beads on the side of some fowler trigger guards. I'd like to hear how you go about making them.
I figured they were simply filed, but quickly found out that was not how to do it. Any tips?

This is what I'm talking about.

You're doing it right, they were just filed in. The farther you get to the ends the more you use just the very end of the file with very short stokes.
How does that brass work for you?

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Mike is of course right, it is a relatively simple filing job. It helps to start the groove with a triangular needle file and then go to a flat file to shape and blend in the groove.
