You may be perfectly correct.  And if that's what makes your stick float, have at it.  But I for one have other needs which you alluded to in your second sentence.  So I use methods and tools (tight denim patch, starter, loading block for hunting, and priming horn) that have made my shooting not only enjoyable to ME, but have given me the accuracy that I believe is inherent in the rifle.  I understand that there are some whose enjoyment comes from doing everything in their power to replicate 18th C limitations.

no need to be defensive as no offense was given.  my previous post was only to surmise what perhaps was done in the 18th century with regards to firearms, as opposed to the typical mindset of today,  per part of the focus of this thread.  how anyone approaches the use of trad muzzys these days is their own business and none of my concern.  it's all good and to each their own, as it should be.
