What lock for my flinter

Im going to start on a flintlock soon I hope. It will be the Jacob Dicker sock. Non inleted. What is your favorite lock  that can be bought commercially.  Im thinking a large siler but maybe you would have a better option. I really like the round face locks but i guess they are more for fjssils and fowlers and besides ive been stuck on siler quite sometime.

It depends what period the rifle is from.  If it is a later rifle, then a large Siler might be Ok.   If it is an early Dickert after the Christian Springs rifles then I would go with the Chambers Early Germanic lock.

An early Dickert might also look good with the Chambers Dale Johnson lock.

I've used the Large Siler, the Golden Age and the  Dale Johnson on Lancaster styled LRs and now prefer the Dale Johnson.....it "fits" the Lancaster architecture better than the Large Siler while the Golden Age  would also be another good choice for a Lancaster. Both the Dale Johnson and Golden Age have lower "tails"  and therefore are easier to fit the wrist and lock panel. Shown below is my last attempt at a Lancaster.....w/ a Dale Johnson that has a bevel filed on. Don't like the Dale Johnson as rec'd w/ its non-descript corner treatment.......Fred

Depends on the breech size as well, I have never cared for the look of a siler lock on large barreled or early  gun.

I used that same stock you speak of and use the Dale Johnson style Chamberswith the deluxe parts.You couldn't ask for better performance. And the look, in my opinion, is great.

Any of the Chambers locks will serve you well.  I generally use more of the Golden Age model, simply because the larger lock plate gives me more steel to work with.  I can't remember when I used a gun lock without "refining" the profile of the lock plate some.  I tend to think of a gun lock as "raw material" that I refine to suit my vision rather than a component I am not supposed to touch. 

The lock internals of the Chambers locks are first rate.  So select a lock that gives you enough steel to make the gun you want and make the gun you want.

I got the dale johnson lock and got it inleted.The bottom of the pan is just above the botom line of the side flat and the flash hole liner will fit righ in perfect.
