Banded Horn With W. Va. Connection
« on: January 22, 2019, 04:50:11 PM »
It is about 14” around the outside curve and about 10” Tip to Tip. The Maple butt is held in with 12 wooden pegs, it is hollowed out about 3/4s its length. The tip is Whitetail antler and the collar is of horn, they are both pinned to the horn with 3 small Iron pins each. The bands are heated and pressed on and then pinned to retain them. The original is on page 369 of Jay Hopkins book, Bone Tipped & Banded Horns it is listed as found with a rifle in Pendleton Co. W Va. For color it was boiled in a mix of dyes and finished off with Brown shoe polish. Once some powder goes in and out the stopper will go all the way in.

The shaping work is great like usual Tim. The bands look super too. But, the finishes are great! I love the warm colors. This one will be sold fast. Fine work. God Bless, Marc
