5/8” .29
« on: January 21, 2019, 03:45:17 AM »

My friend Stoner Creek had this great idea that he needed a .29 - 5/8” across the flats. Finished rifling it this evening it stayed straight and looks good. It was a slow process.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Something Southern. Something iron mounted. I’m still thinking about it. It takes me longer to think about things than it does other folks. I’ll probably get some good ideas at Knoxville this year.

This topic reminds me of the rifle Ned Robert's Uncle Alvaro picked up on a battle field during the Civil War, a .30 cal. cap gun, that had belonged to a kid.
Ned learned to shoot with that rifle.
I should never have traded that book for "Sixguns by Keith", but I treasure that one as well & Taylor has a copy of Ned's book.

Length is 40" give or take a little. 3 /8" breech.
