Trade gun locks

Hi

Being a big fan of trade guns i would like to buid one the most accurately possible reproduction  from the original.I am looking for a lock such as Barnett .Is there  a place who reproduce such lock from originals?And what about a barrel for it?

Chris Hirsh has castings from an original trade gun lock. North west trade gun that is. I believe he is a member on here and he has a web site but don't know what it is off hand. I'll try to find it for you.

That is a tough one. A Barnett marked lock with the fox tombstone would be hard to find. I’m looking at a 1838 Nortwest Trade Gun in “For Trade and Treaty”. The lock is 6” and the big L&R trade gun lock could work. It would need to be engraved. Barrel on this one is  20 ga and 38.5” long. Barrel is 1” at breech and has a short octagon section.

What timeframe and barrel length are you looking for?

There’s an 1815 in this book also. No pan bridle and lock is shorter.

Depends on what trade gun of what particular era  you want to build. It's all in the details.

Thank you for your answers.I want a built a Barnett trade gun between 1830's to the end of the flint era (1870's). The double throated cock on the late lock would be fine also.

Prior Mountain Bill Newton’s tradegun book has patterns for an early Whately, and some others,  with illustrations on how to produce the correct markings on the lock, and barrel.

Track of the Wolf has Trade Gun Locks, stocks & barrels and all other smaller parts and also has both styles of sitting fox stamps, LONDON stamp, Barnett proof stamps, British Proof stamps etc.

 I would like to thank you again for your precious help.To help you to understand my situation about my need to build the most accurate trade gun possible.First i own almost 20 books about trade gun and a lot of infos about.My friend who lives near me (Quebec) is the author Russel Bouchard ,he wrote many books about the subject.I once  built  a kit in the 1980 's .manufactured from a guy in U.S.A.The gun was fine but had some difference from a real one.I fell in love which those guns when i was in a younger age ,30 years later(i am now 62years old)i would like to build the most accurate possible reproduction.that is why i am a little finnicky about my needs.I have checked about every place who sells any parts or else  about trade guns.

You can get in touch with several barrel makers like Rayle, Burton and probably Rice Barrels and they would make a barrel to your specs.
