Mike Brooks Trade Gun
« on: June 25, 2009, 03:23:21 PM »
Have you seen the Trade Gun done by Mike on the blog site?    A real neat job of antiquing and it goes beyone what most guys are doing today.   I was curious, Mike, as to the name you put on the butt?   Did you just pull this out of the air
or is it copied from an existing piece?  I really like what you did, really a neat gun............Don

Mike, I have to agree with Don.....your Wm. Moore gun is outstanding.  The distressed finish and carved details are exactly as would have appeared on a well used but cared for early frontier gun.  I much admire your conceptual skills....and your tool work ain't too shabby either....a wonderful gun.

As always, exceptional. I also liked your early Virginia smoothrifle posted on the blog back on June 4 but right now the trade gun is my favorite of the two.

Thanks fells. ;D The name is just pulled out of thin air. I really enjoyed building the gun, good therapy.... ;) I was inspired by alot of the muskets and fowlers that  are pictured in Ahearn's and Grinslades books.  A fine fellow from Pittsburgh now owns it.
I just finished up a 1st model bess in the same fashion, turned out very similar.
Hey Don, this is the Iowa version of your barn gun... ;D

Neat gun!!! Simple but effective. Do you have a picture of the forestock you can post including the pipes and muzzle?

Thanks. All the pictures I have of the gun are shown on the blog. The pipes are ribbed trade gun pipes.

Mike.....this doesn't have a darn thing to do with your gun.   I am looking for some information.   I had a business card for
Fred Bowen, the engraver, but, for some strange reason I cannot locate it.    Do you have a phone number or E-mail
address for him?          Don
