trigger problem, need advice
« on: May 22, 2019, 04:12:07 PM »
Finishing my Kibler colonial build.
Took flintlock apart to polish and put back together with the help of this forum. Thanks y'all.
Put rifle together and went to check trigger operation.
Went to half cock, then full cock, fired sparked all good.
Tried again, and would not hold at half or full, nudged single set trigger up a bit and engaged normal.
Seems like after firing the trigger is not returning forward enough just by a hair.
Any ideas?

IIRC, that lock has a fly. Does the sear spring provide any force at all against the sear as the tumbler is rotated? It sounds to me like perhaps the sear has a little slop from not being held against the tumbler by the sear spring. That would then require the trigger to exert the restoring force - which IMHO is an incorrect setup.

Pull the lock and cycle the cock. Make sure the sear spring by itself is capable of causing the fly to cycle and is capable of pushing the sear fully into the half-cock notch.

That's what I'd check first.

Second would be to check to make sure there is absolutely NO contact between the sear and the stock wood, at any point in cycling the lock. That could also cause issues.

Loosen the tang bolt and pull the trigger assembly out a hair.  You have have to remove the trigger guard.  Check function again.  This will diagnose if the blade on the set trigger is too high.

I had the same problem, cleaned and lubed the trigger and it cleared up.

Pull the trigger out and see if the spring has enough tension to return the trigger mine didn't due to tight, probably dry, trigger pivot pin from having it apart.

Thanks y’all!
Got home took lock and trigger out.
Lubed the trigger, loosened tang bolt, and sear, tumbler bolts.
Retightend with less torque.
Installed lock with less torque on side plate bolts.
Tested and works perfectly.
The amount of knowledge on this forum still amazes me.
Y’all have been there since before I uncrated this rifle.
Almost ready to make some smoke!
