Brass barrelled rifle
« on: July 06, 2009, 10:10:47 PM »
For those of you who may have made replicas or stylistically similar versions of the brass barreled rifle,
(# 103 in volume II of Rifles of Colonial America), I would be very interested to know what lock you used.

While I am asking, what would you guys think about the Germanic style lock found in the Rifleshop catalog, page 159, (# 521 “Chiseled Continental lock) as a close replica?  Thanks in advance for the input.

Regards,

Ez

Have not made a close copy, but many have noted a similarity to the Marshall rifle lock.  I think if I were to tackle it I'd modify a Davis early Germanic lock if I wanted to go off the shelf.  I don't see deep chiseling of the original locks on either of these rifles.  I think that another good choice would be one of Jack Brooks' Germanic locks.  These are sets of castings.
