John Knell longrifle 1970's?
« on: July 09, 2009, 05:41:13 AM »
Looking for help on identifying the maker John Knell, this rifle is a full stocked flintlock with brass and silver engraved furniture, it has a single set trigger, button patch box, gold torch hole liner.  54" overall, 38 inch barrel, 1 inch on the flats.  Pics at http://picasaweb.google.com/steg86/JohnKnell  this rifle may be older, the pitting at the breach is deeper than one would expect from a newer rifle, even if not cleaned.  Thanks  steg49

Looks like an older Siler lock--and the date sounds about right.

1970 would be about right. It is a Siler lock and probably a Douglas barrel. What caliber is it?

Thanks for the information, and John, I'am glad you signed it.  Very nice engraving! The calib. is .54, I have had it for about 4 months, came from an estate here in Calif.  steg49

I think the rifle was made about 1972. I traded it to Kindig's Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio for building supplies. It was the 6th rifle I made. I was living in Ada, Ohio at the time. Nice piece of wood!
