Just purchased a rifle
« on: July 11, 2019, 05:04:04 AM »
I just purchased the pictured rifle off gunbroker.com and received it today.
It has no markings on the barrel or the lock. Lots of corrosion on the lock.
I don't know if the lock is original to the gun or not.
The barrel is 41 1/4" long with an OD of 1" and ID of 3/8".
Overall length of the gun is 56 inches.
There is a grease hole on the right side of the stock.
The barrel pins are held in with some material I don't recognize.
The material almost feels like wax.

Any ideas you have of the style of gun is appreciated.
Thanks.
Dan

While I cannot identify the rifle, it could very easily be from southeastern Kentucky, down around the Clay County area. It has a number of KY characteristics from that area including: a) long barrel for a half-stock, b) pewter nose cap sitting several inches past a brass rear ramrod pipe, c) pointed side facings, d) triangular butt. Some guns from that area also used the double line lower butt molding that terminated behind the rear spur...instead of the normal molding lines that ran father up the wrist.
