Kibler Colonial Wood Upgrade
« on: July 08, 2019, 06:51:59 PM »
This rifle is one of the Kibler Colonial kits with the better than "best" wood upgrades he wrote about recently.  I normally don't mess with the kits, but when he posted that he had exceptional wood - I said why not.  Just putting it here for your viewing pleasure.  Now back to building from scratch.

Yep, that's pretty exceptional all right.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Beautiful wood and finish work.  Nice to see how they look when finished.  Thanks for sharing!

Wow!  I'd call it a little bit beyond exceptional.

Jim, I used your tannic acid and iron nitrate along with LMF Honey Maple and some hand labor.  Finished with a coat of Bri Wax.

Thanks for the compliments, but as you know - Jim gets the credit on these.

I agree.  I had thought I would hunt with it when I ordered the kit - but now I am having doubts about dragging it around.  I am going to be at the CLA show next month and will look at Jim's walnut stocked specimens.  Maybe one of those.  Something plain.  I have already had inquiries about selling it, but I am having serious second thoughts about that.

How will hunting with it change the figure or the rifle's inherent beauty?

I hunt in a pretty rough environment.
