Of marginal interest to most on this list--but perhaps of interest to some?

On another thread, Eric K. and I went back and forth on what early references to "Allenstown" or "Allentown" refer to--a very early settlement at what would become Allentown or Allen's Township (very different place) in Northampton County.

I've been working through some Northampton County treasurer books from 1754-1758 and the term "Allenton" and "Allenstown" are often used to refer to the township (not a town)--see this page reproduced below, where monies received from the tax collector of "Allenstown" are recorded along with monies collected from the commissioners at all the other townships (Mount Bethel, Forks, Plainfield, etc.). Indeed, sometimes the term "Allenstownship" or "Allentownship" are spelled out, with the same tax collector specified.
