Sighting plane on Fowler barrel?
« on: July 29, 2019, 08:02:04 PM »
Will any of the barrel makers, such as Bobby Hoyt, produce a smoothbore trade gun barrel with the flat sighting plane that extends all of the way to the muzzle??

Thanks,

I just draw file it on, no biggie. It's the way my original French trade gun barrel was done. Otherwise you can draw file the flat then relieve it on the sides....I believe Smart Dog shows how to do this somewhere or other.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Hi,
Here is how I did it.

It was not terribly difficult.

I don't think any barrel makers will do it for you but it does not hurt to ask.
