CLA table awards
« on: July 25, 2019, 02:13:21 PM »
These bags were specially made as table awards for the upcoming Contemporary Longrifle Association's 2019 show and meeting in Lexington KY.  The buckles are handmade and the decorative flaps were made using hand carved blocks impressed into the cased leather.

James

Can you explain to us the pressing of the block process?

How much pressure and for how long?

Thanks

Fleener

Snapper, it depends on leather thickness, moisture content, etc. An old book press will do this in a snap. Time is just enough to tighten it in and then pull it out.
This means of decoration was used in the 18th century on pocketbooks, etc.

Those are WAY Cool, the blocks are amazing, as is the work on the, buckles, not to mention the buttons, stitching and design. I don't sleep much but I still don't seem to be able to find time to do all the things I'd like to, You must not sleep at all ;)

Tim,
If shoemakers can have elves I'm hoping saddlers can get a few as well ; )
In truth I have been running back and forth to AZ as well as building fire pit terraces and sidewalks so my business has taken a toll this summer. Thanks guys.

Since this is not a muzzleloading accoutrement I'll just drop it here ..... This is my version of a 19th century Virginia key basket given to brides as a recognition of their position as mistress of the household.
