Barrel channel scrapers

Has anybody used the barrel channel scrapers  that Brownells sells  ?    Al

If you mean the ones with multiple cutters mounted on a bent square rod, yes. They are the real deal. Zero chatter, smooth cut, no ripples.

I have the barrel channel scrapers that Brownells sells and I think they work great.  I wish I had picked up some of these years ago.

I have the round ones, but need to find some octagon ones.  This 13/16" really needs it - doing it all now with a scraper I cut off another, larger scraper.

I thought Gunline went out of business but it appears they are still making barrel bedding tools. Brownells doesn't have octagon ones but it appears they can be ordered directly from Gunline.

Seems to me if one is a gun maker........fabricating a scraper(s) to fit your needs would be simple. The forming and tempering are all part of the "building" process.

And that is exactly what I did - formed one with the inlet shape with three sides - bottom, first 45*, and side 90*.  Flip it around to do the other side.  Really did a fine job of final shaping the barrel channel.
I use aviation snips to cut the scraper from a larger Lie-Nielson scraper - it has various shapes cut in one end, so you can tell I've been a busy lad!
Cut just a tad oversize, file to fit, burnish the edge, done.

The large chisels at Harbor Freight are a good starting point for scrapers.  The steel is good.  Just heat, bend, shape, and reheat to red and quench in oil.

The older wood handled ones actually were pretty good chisels if you spent sometime tunimg them. They are a touch softer than I prefer, but still hold up fair especially for the price.

I never thought of shaping a card scraper for the barrel channel as mentioned  above by Craig..
I have made barrel channel scrapers out of old files.  I would think that a card type scraper  would
Be much more precise and do a finer job. I'm going to try that on the next build.
