Dear friend Rich Pierce needed an inlay for a fur trade flinter. He sent a photo of an original cheekpiece to his artistic daughter, who did super nice black and white artwork of the deer. I brought that black and white into my CAD/CAM system, and created a multi level toolpath in aluminum. Then I went over the tool marks with a dremel, blending the surfaces, defining muscles and body mass. The antler tips and plant leaves required some chisel work.
Then I ran the die, sandwiched with .015 brass and a 1/8" thick rubber backer, through my hand cranked rolling mill. Puff-puff, lemme tell you. I'm very pleased with the results, and thought you might like to see something a little different.
