My wife put this together, she did it all, side plate was made from old silver dollar, she liked that design and went with it, happened to catch the sun light just right and make quite the contrast, of the maple,
Was stained with Kiblers iron nitrate,

That is a very beautiful piece, she is quite the gun builder also.

Wowsers. Super wood. Love the metal color. It’s perfect to my eye.

FYI, sulfur ages silver just like the natural aging process. Take a few boiled eggs, split them in half and put them in a sealed Tupperware with your silver. Egg yolks contain a small amount of sulfur. A few days and whala! Beautifully aged silver.

Thanks, she made the bag about 20 years ago, I did the horn, horn strap is one of Maryellen Pratts

5 or 6 coats of tru oil thinned with turpinetine

Elk killer my congratulations indeed...very nice work...is that a special order maple..?? Because sometimes Jim just knocks the stock picking out of the park for his kits.....

That actually is what Jim called a second, it has a big mineral streak on lock side of the butt, but to me just gives it character, once stained it blended in well, we all have our views on curly maple stocks, good figure sure won’t make it shoot any better, but to me, it’s takes same amount of time to build a rifle from plain maple as it does figured maple,
There are a lot of nice rifles made from plain maple, but to me figure is what makes it, my wife loves curly maple as much or even more than I do,,

Jim issues maple with very strong figure. His wood is hard and superlative in hardness and figure. I ordered the plainest piece of blank pallet wood he had and this is what he sent. He said it's a second he couldn't sell because of a couple of drying checks...oh dear!

That’s one of the finest pieces of Maple I ever saw on a rifle. When you slap that pic down on the table it’s time to fold and cash out....

Elk Killer’s is no slouch however.
