Nicholson files

I saw at the hardware store and saw Nicholson files made in Brazil. Are these files any better than the ones made in Mexico?

They are hit or miss. My boss provides the files at work and they are always Nicholson. Sometimes they cut well and last forever, sometimes they are toast in short order.

I buy all the American made ones I can find at junk shops and yard sales for not much $$
give them a good soak in vinegar for 4 or 5 days and have had good luck with them
the new ones I have found are not worth it

Pferd, made in Germany, available at Amazon. Not cheap, but you don’t have to hunt, and guess, or soak them in vinegar. Life’s just to short to make everything a search, and rebuild, project.

For ordinary mill files and other basic shapes I would suggest Bahco.  Good quality and affordable.
